Micron grant helps Manassas schools prepare students for life in 21st century

Manassas Superintendent Gail Pope outlined their districts plans this week to reevaluate curriculum and prepare students for life in the 21st century. According to the Washington Post, Pope said several initiatives taking shape will make Manassas students more competitive in the global economy. One of these programs includes having students participate in FIRST competitions. Due in part to a $5,000 grant from the Micron Foundation, students will be able to participate in the FIRST Lego League to design, build and program a robot created with Lego products. Micron Virginia Site Director Interviewed by PBS' NewsHour with Jim Lehrer

Wayne Allan, the site director for Micron's fabrication facility in Manassas, Va., was interviewed this week by PBS' NewsHour with Jim Lehrer program for an upcoming news segment on Northern Virginia. The segment will reportedly focus on the changing political climate in Northern Virginia as the region diversifies its economy, and Micron was interviewed as an example of a technology company that has helped change Virginia from a state that's largest export for centuries was tobacco and now is semiconductor components. The segment is supposed to air in early September.

Micron's new 32GB e-MMC

Last week Micron announced its newest e-MMC embedded device in 32GB of memory density, which is the highest density available on the market. The new product boasts impressive storage and feature options, and is ideal for in-dash applications like navigation systems and other automotive applications. Micron has simplified the e-MMC system design by removing the requirements of the host memory controller to support NAND software drivers and complex NAND management techniques, including error correction code (ECC), wear leveling, and bad block management – replacing all of this complexity with a simple and ubiquitous MMC interface. Micron Promotes SSDs at Flash Memory Summit

Micron recently presented at the Flash Memory Summit in Santa Clara, and Dean Klein, vice president of Memory Systems Development, had the opportunity to connect with EETimes to discuss Micron's views on solid state drive technology supported by NAND flash memory. Micron Appoints New Sales Executive

Micron recently announced the appointment of Mark Adams to the position of Vice President of Worldwide Sales. Adams, formerly Micron’s Vice President of Digital Media, will focus in his new role on strengthening the alignment of Micron’s core OEM business sales strategies with developing opportunities in retail, online and distribution channels. To assist Adams in the newly expanded sales organization, Micron has appointed Paul Mullen to Vice President of International OEM Sales and Mike Bokan to Vice President of Americas OEM Sales. Adams replaces Mike Sadler, who has accepted a new role in the Office of the President for MeiYa Technology Corporation, a DRAM joint venture between Micron and Nanya Technology Corporation.
